Onwards & Upwards

August 4th, 2008

Alright boys it was an outstanding effort by the forty or so that made the short trip to Camperdown Oval on Saturday, The commitment and heart shown by those there cannot be faulted, yeah the results don’t read so well, but we got in and gave it a go, people backed up beyond the call of duty and showed real ticker. Clearly we need the support of all our players to get through the last two weeks of this season. The road home is conveniently close to home, this week we play Hunters Hill at Boronia Park, there lower grades are in semi contention, our last game is at home at Roseville Chase against our friends from Hawkesbury Valley, lets get all our mates along for the last two rounds! WE NEED PLAYERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The last game of the season celebrates Dave Bullard’s last game for the Club, whilst also marking Adrian Brannan’s 300th and last game for the Club, come along and help these two guys celebrate what have been long careers with the boots on. In fact someone should remind both of them that we don’t stop playing because we have grown old, rather we grow old because we stop playing. Regardless a function at Major Sponsor The Orchard Tavern that night is being held in 70’s theme, someone told MOTS that a few bucks might go over the bar that night for players drinks, try scorers in the next two rounds might even get spirit subsidies!

Speaking of funding, sub payment is being sought immediately please see our previous e-mail for bank details to electronically transfer it!

Check brothersrugby.com.au for the photo updates of recent rounds, of interest to our older members will be the photo archive section accessible through the site.

Luke Sullivan is now sporting a pirates eye patch that suits his Michael Clarke style and lifestyle yet Captain Sparrow seems like a fitting nickname for the bloke anyway what heart he showed in the 2nd half of first grade to play on with partial vision. Speaking of the second half of first grade on Saturday, mention should be made of the little flyer Mitch Connors, his defensive game has been impeccable and he has shown great skills in returning the high ball over recent fixtures. The Mercurial Maggot McIntyre inspires with his bustling runs that seem to allude three and four defenders at a time. Big JE in the powerhouse with Tank were taking no garbage and Lambo occasionally showed his class at number two in the lineout, for a winger Andrew Fitz-Simpson is turning into a great hooker and we hope to see continued commitment to the tight game on the paddock (love ya brother). Si keeps showing a turn of speed and a flight of foot that proves bamboozling to the defence. The two Tommies showed moments of their best and well George just always looks good! In my Gonzo sports journalism amateur assessment after watching a selected fifteen minute interval of the second half on Saturday we have an outstanding nucleus of a very competitive and dare I say it successful first grade. I know MOTS is salivating at the prospect of calling a 2009 Premiership Assault.

But back to the the present now, the next two weeks will be a lot of fun who wants to be part of it?

Welcome to the Brothers Rugby Club Sydney’s new website where we wil be reporting on Brothers Rugby with maybe just a tad of content about our fine bretheren and Sisters in the CBOB’s Mixed Basketball Team from time to time!

See all last weeks pictorial action and a message from the Club’s Treasurer further down in this browser window, in the menu to the right you can scan through to our photo albums, which has a wide arrange of modern and antique photos from our 6 decades of history.

This week sees us take on the Boys from Balmain at the Roseville Chase Bobdome and with the Pope’s visit to the oval to bless the Bretheren it should be a great day! Fouth Grade kicks off at Noon, but be sure to hang around and see the action between the top sides, recent form has our Boys performing well and I for one tip an upset this Saturday at 3:15pm. Subs are now terribly overdue see Beau for electronic details on payment soon!
